Dunno if that's a safe car to buy but I love the E21. My first car was an E30 and I loved it. But I prefer the looks of the E21. Something about the 70s era BMW design just does it for me. I love that BMW was one of the few car companies to make good looking cars in the late 70s.

BMW and Mercedes both made many amazing cars in the 70's

Yeah especially in the late 70s, when many car companies were struggling with making cars that met emission regulations. So many other car companies made cars that were either very slow, very unreliable, very difficult to maintain, or all three.

Ze Germans were the only ones that made cars you'd still want to own now. Mercedes, BMW and Porsche all made good cars. I wouldn't touch an Italian car from 1978 with a 10 foot poll.

hahahahahaha!!! Italian cars oh man, they can be a basket case. Most German cars in American spec'ed versions still produced decent power. Compared to the 6 litre, 150 horsepower cars in the US at the time. Thankfully, things have gotten much better!

My Dad had a 70s Fiat spider. He later sold it and bought a 70s Alfa spider. He said they were both a massive pain to maintain. The Germans were so far ahead of everyone at that time.

It is crazy how much better things have got. Nowadays it's hard to find a new car that isn't reliable.

Having never owned a new vehicle my idea of reliable is whether or not it starts up in the morning. So when people ask me if a new car is reliable its hard to get an idea of what they think is reliable.

They are crazy reliable. At least for now.

Soon every car will be turbo charged, only come with some type of automatic transmission, electric power steering, start/stop, drive by wire, etc. They will be reliable enough during the warranty period but liabilities after that.

The golden age of modern cars just ended a couple years ago...

Looks quite mangled and rusty from this angle.
